Training Camp Day 1 Recap

The Tulsa Shock officially opened the 2015 WNBA season at Tulsa Edison High School on Sunday afternoon with the first session of training camp. An estimated 200 loyal fans, owners, media and staff were on hand to watch the newest version of the Shock.

Activities got started with warm-ups and stretching before Coach Fred Williams took to the floor with his staff. The team ran through multiple drills which emphasized both offense and defense, making sure that the team was cohesive and worked well together. Drills included offensive moves, fast breaks, shooting, half-court situations, defensive footwork, rebounding, and offensive and defensive sets. The crowd was very supportive as they encouraged the team throughout the afternoon, cheering when players made shots or showed great skill.

Draft picks Amanda Zahui B, Brianna Kiesel, and Mimi Mungedi worked well with the rest of the team. Veteran players Skylar Diggins, Odyssey Sims, Riquna Williams, Courtney Paris, Angel Goodrich and others showed their veteran leadership throughout the day. Returning Shock players Karima Christmas and Plenette Pierson did not skip a beat returning to action with Tulsa.

Coach Williams was pleased with the teamís energy and work rate, and kept the team on the court about 30 minutes longer than was originally planned.
